Boustedt-Type of Municipality

Political or administrative units are in many cases unsuitable to accurately describe the type of community in which respondents actually live. A case in point are, for example, small suburban communities. Although often politically and administratively independent, they are nevertheless socio-economically tied to the metropolis. ALLBUS therefore provides the 'Boustedt-type of Municipality' (bstdt7, bstdt10) as an additional regional categorization which addresses these ecological factors in regional statistics. While bstdt7 provides a 7-category version, bstdt10 is a 10-category version. The ’Boustedt-type of municipality’ is based, as far as possible, not on political or administrative criteria, but on the actual regional character of the place of residence.
